Dr. Keith Martin has served as the Member of Parliament for the riding of Esquimalt-Juan de Fuca on picturesque Vancouver Island since 1993.

Born in London, England, Keith grew up in Toronto and graduated from the University of Toronto with a Doctorate of Medicine (M.D.) and a Bachelor of Science (High Distinction).

He practiced emergency medicine and general practice in B.C., but has had a truly varied career.  In addition to working as a physician in northern B.C., Keith practiced medicine in rural Aboriginal communities and at a bush hospital on the Mozambique border during that country's civil war.   He has also been a medical researcher and correctional officer.

Locally, Keith is a vigorous advocate for CFB Esquimalt and the dedicated men and women who serve in our Canadian Forces.  He also works on an enormous array of local issues, including addressing the challenges of substance abuse, homelessness, access to health care, affordable housing, aboriginal issues, job creation and developing an integrated transportation strategy for Greater Victoria to name but a few.

In Parliament, Keith has championed important legislation in healthcare, defence, social programme renewal, a National Head Start Programme for children, poverty reduction, democratic reform, and defending your fundamental rights (e.g. freedom of speech)

A passionate humanitarian, Keith has been a part of numerous diplomatic missions to some of the most troubled areas of the world, including Sierra Leone, the Middle East, Sudan and Zimbabwe. He has also successfully organized multi-million dollar shipments of medical supplies to areas in crisis such (South East Asia after the tsunami, Zimbabwe, Ghana, and Sudan)

Keith has had more than 120 articles published in Canada and has written a local bi-monthly column for ten years.  For five years, he hosted his own nationally syndicated television show, "Beyond Politics", and was selected by Maclean's magazine as one of Canada's Top 100 Leaders of Tomorrow.  His work has also been recognised by numerous organisations, including the Sierra Club and ICROSS International.

Always eager to share ideas and hear from the community, Keith can be contacted at his Victoria office at
